About KieSchool.nl

Independent comparison platform for Dutch primary schools

"Choosing a school is one of the first big decisions parents make for their child. KieSchool.nl makes that choice easier by presenting public education data in a clear, comparable and fair way."

What does KieSchool.nl do?

KieSchool.nl collects publicly available data about all ~6,000 Dutch primary schools, calculates an objective score and gives parents a clear overview of performance, atmosphere and practical information. We are not part of the government or any school board — we are fully independent.

How does our score work?

Each school receives a score from 0 to 100 based on six measurable components:

Component Weight
Secondary school track: VWO25%
Secondary school track: HAVO15%
Secondary school track: VMBO-T10%
Exam results: fundamental level25%
Exam results: target level15%
Recommendation accuracy10%

Each component is normalised against the national average before weighting is applied. CITO scores add an additional correction factor of up to 15%. The score is therefore comparable across school years and regions — but is not an official judgement by the Education Inspectorate.

Limitations and fairness

  • 📊 Our score measures what is measurable — atmosphere, teaching approach and the teacher-pupil relationship are not included.
  • 📅 Data may lag 1–2 years behind a school's current reality.
  • 🏫 Small schools (fewer than 50 pupils) can show strongly fluctuating scores due to small sample sizes.
  • 🗺 The 'best' school always depends on your child, your neighbourhood and your priorities. Visit the school in person.

Who are we?

KieSchool.nl is an independent non-commercial project, built and maintained by parents who want to make Dutch education data more accessible. We receive no funding from school boards, municipalities or the Ministry of Education.

Running costs are covered by the sale of comparison reports (€2.99 per report).
